MBC wins USD 1 billion Saudi football rights deal

Arab-based free-to-air satellite broadcaster, Middle East Broadcasting Co. (MBC), has bagged a ten-year deal securing the broadcast rights for the Saudi Arabian Professional Football League and the King Cup, worth SAR 4.1 billion (USD 1 billion).

“The Saudi professional football games, the King Cup, the Crown Prince Cup and the Super Cup will be broadcast on MBC channel”, said Saudi Arabian Football Association. “The Saudi League First Division, Prince Faisal bin Fahad Cup, the Youth League U20 and Youngster League U17 will be broadcast on al-Riyadiyah.”

The deal sees a hike in the annual rights cost for the Saudi Arabian Professional Football League and the King Cup from SAR 150 million (USD 40 million) to SAR 410 million (USD 109.3 million) per season.
