MENA broadcasting company MBC Group will soon roll out a Farsi TV channel for the youth population which is a competitive media market. MBC Persia will introduce ‘Farsi TV’ channel on Oct. 6, initially beaming subtitled and dubbed dramas, comedies, talent-spotting shows and Hollywood and Bollywood films.
The broadcaster will begin to make exclusive productions for the general entertainment channel by the end of this year or early 2019. The target audience will be the youth mainly in Iran where there is a majority of people under 30. However, in the future, the channel will aim for broader region that is Farsi speakers in the US.
The spokesman of MBC Group, Mazen Hayek declared, “It’s in the pipeline. We’re contemplating all possible genres of original content. We believe the youth represent an overwhelming majority among the region’s Farsi speakers. The youth deserve to have an exceptional family entertainment channel to tune in to.”
However, Hayek stated it is a competitive market, with dozens of Farsi channels broadcast from outside Iran the key competitors.
“The list of Persian-language TV channels is long, so the competition is established. We will try to (use) our knowledge at MBC, our lead and expertise in producing content, and in acquiring the best content available, to give the young Farsi speakers an amazing experience,’’ said Hayek.
MBC Persia will be accessible via Yahsat, on digital platforms and social media channels.
