Middle East Broadcasting Centre (MBC), the Dubai-based satellite broadcaster, has added two new HD channels, MBC3 HD and MBC Persia, to its service on low-cost Middle East pay-TV platform – My-HD.
MBC is reducing its SD output as the number of HDTV households across MENA region increases. “Today, we estimate that 1.5 million regional households have HD receivers and are able to see MBC HD channels.,” said Sam Barnett, CEO of the MBC Group. “HD had a reasonably slow start – however we have now reached a critical mass of channels, and solid and steady growth continues with the HD numbers.”
MBC signed a strategic agreement with My-HD in September 2012 to broadcast seven HD channels free to viewers purchasing approved My-HD receivers or viewing cards. My-HD offers over 41 satellite channels out of which 35 are HD.
