India´s MSO Hathway has installed 6.8 million STBs in Phase I and II cities and the company is targeting to seed around 10.5 to 11 million STBs by the end of Phase IV. Hathway anticipates to add about 200000 to 300000 more subscribers from Phase I and II cities as 100% digitisation is still not achieved in this region. The firm states that they have started with the voluntary digitisation in Phase III cities.
G.Subramanium, CFO , Hathway Cables said to CNBC-TV18 that their expectation of cable operators losing out to DTH players in Phase II has not happened. This is mainly because some of the smaller operators have been unable to capitalise on digitisation process and migrated to large MSOs who have been able to feed boxes in these markets.
Hathway has been billing net to the subscriber base and probably expects to move to gross billing in the course of September. The company expects that more and more subscribers will gravitate towards mid-tier packages and some will opt for premium tier packages which will ultimately increase the company´s ARPU.
