Jain TV partners with Intelsat for pan-India HITS launch

Noida Software Technology Park (NSTPL), a conglomerate of India based Jain TV group engaged in TV broadcasting and production is planning for a pan-India launch of Headend In the sky (HITS) platform branded as JAINHITS. NSTP has signed a multi-year, multi-transponder agreement with Intelsat for C-band capacity on their 902 satellite (at 62 degree East). The company will invest around USD 54.6 million for the satellite partnership and distribution of STB’s to cable operators.

This capacity will be used to create white label, turnkey channel packages which MSO’s and LCO’s can distribute. The company is open for partnerships with MSO’s, CO’s and ISO’s to distribute digital channels and claims that the operator will benefit from reduced Capex . The Company states that Cable operators will be able to meet TRAI’s QOS standards by joining HITS platform. The JAINHITS platform will initially launch with 200 digital TV channels and will expand to 350 by next year.

The fact that HITS can implement DAS ; monitors SMS and CAS for the entire country using a single platform thrills operators. NSTPL chief of teleport business Jeet Narayan Singh said “Unlike DTH, the HITS technology will be a two-way communication. With HITS technology, we will be able to provide more value added services and help provide broadband connections”. HITS is expected to hit the market due to the strong regulatory measures for digital transformation, in spite of poor adaptability of this technology earlier.
