ICE expands FTTH network

Costa Rica’s operator ICE has recently announced the launch of triple play services through its fiber network in Barva de Heredia, under the Kölbi brand.
“We proudly move forward in connecting locations with fiber. With this offer, residential, SME and business customers of the region will be able to acquire triple play solutions, with voice, high-speed Internet and advanced television,” said Diego González, project director.
According to the company, the project includes the installation of 41 kilometers of fiber in the primary and secondary telecommunications network. In total, close to 3,100 customers in the area would benefit with advanced FTTH connections, and the network will be enabled with a percentage of growth, as required by the demand for short-term services.
ICE began replacing the copper network with FTTH in August of this year and will complete the process in April 2018. Currently, the work is 30% ready, which is equivalent to approximately 1,000 migrated clients. In addition to the canton of Barva, kölbi offers fiber optic in Quepos-Manuel Antonio, and in Santa Teresa, Mal País and El Carmen de Cóbano, in Puntarenas.
