Hotstar, the OTT platform of Star India is targeting a big revenue gain from the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League with more than doubled advertising rates for the T20 league. An amount of 1.5 billion to 2 billion is expected to be gained as revenue.
The sponsorships, according to releases, are “believed to be sizeable investments from companies of a scale that has not been seen in the Indian digital market to date and indicate their belief in Hotstar’s promise of delivering the largest global sporting event on digital this summer”.
Confident that Hotstar will be the most popular platform offering the IPL season with 130 million viewers nationally, Ajit Mohan, the CEO of Hotstar, revealed that: “Marketers are recognizing that these are audiences that are TV light or not present on television at all. We are reinventing the experience of cricket on a mobile and India is changing the way it watches its favourite sport”.
