In Gabon, the High Authority for Communication (HAC) yesterday lifted the 30-day suspension imposed on the private television channel Media +. As a reminder, the regulator had sanctioned the “lack of courtesy” of Abu Becker Ndiaye, the director general of Media +, who refused to receive within the premises of its chain, a delegation of the HAC.
The suspension of the sanction was decided at a plenary session of the institution, held on 1 August. HAC claims to have lifted the penalty because of the good conduct of Media + officials.
The latter sent the HAC a gracious appeal and a letter of apology written by the Director General of Media +. “The College noted that the interested party has made amends by recognizing the act of obstruction of the action of the HAC posed by the manager of this media. Also, notwithstanding the false campaign conducted by Reporters Without Borders, the college lifted the penalty of 30 days suspension imposed on Media +, “said a statement from the HAC.
