Guatemala wants analog TV switched off by 2022

The Telecommunications Superintendence (SIT) said that the government is ready to begin the implementation of DTT under the ISDB-T standard, which Guatemala adopted in 2013. It is expected that the transition process will be completed in 2022.

According to Superintendent, José Raúl Solares Chíu, the process could take five years, “thinking that everything is going to turn out well”. A technical team from SIT is already working on the digital channel plan.

The ISDB-T standard was already selected by other Central American countries such as Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and more recently El Salvador. In South America, meanwhile, it was selected by all countries in the region with the exception of Colombia, which uses DVB-T.
