The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Football Association (Concacaf) announced that Guadalajara (Mexico) will host the Concacaf 2020 Men’s Pre-Olympic Championship. The competition is scheduled to be played between March 20th and April 1st next year, at the Jalisco and Akron Stadiums.
‘We are very excited to bring the Concacaf 2020 Men’s Pre-Olympic Championship to Guadalajara, Mexico. This competition plays an important role in showing the best of our Confederation’s football, while providing the opportunity to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Football Tournament’, said Philippe Maggio, Concacaf General Secretary. The headquarters official announcement, apart from Maggio, had the words of the Jalisco State Governor, Enrique Alfaro Ramirez, and the Concacaf VP and President of the Mexican Football Federation, Yon de Luisa.
Teams participating in the Concacaf Pre-Olympic Championship will be Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, the US, Honduras, Mexico and other two from the Caribbean, which will be confirmed in September. The eight teams will be divided into two groups of four. After the group stage, the first and second places will move forward to the semifinals. Later, each semifinal winners will automatically qualify for the tournament final and the Tokyo 2020 Men’s Olympic Football Tournament.
