Globo’s new telenovela breaks ratings record

Brazilian broadcaster Globo announced that its new telenovela, ‘O Tempo Não Para’ (Time does not Stop, in a loose translation) reached 40.8 million viewers and a share of 46% during its premiere, on July 31. This is the best result for a first episode in the 7 p.m. slot, since 2013.
The new telenovela replaced the medieval super production ‘God Save The King,’ which wrapped up on Monday, July 30, reaching 45.4 million viewers. The premiere of #OTempoNãoPara also stirred up social media, with more than 83,000 mentions. The telenovela’s official hashtag stayed on Twitter’s Trending Topics Worldwide for 6 hours and on Brazil’s TTs for 10 hours.
In the story, the Sabino Machado family remains frozen for 132 years, after a shipwreck in 1886. After awakening in modern day, they now have to deal with the cultural shock between two different eras. ‘O Tempo Não Para’ is written by Mario Teixeira and has artistic direction by Leonardo Nogueira.
