The application of the Brazilian OTT Globo Play reached 9.5 million downloads after a year of launching, the company said during an event. In turn, the platform had 67 million unique users (people who consumed at least one video on the platform).
In the event to present the results of the first year of service were Erick Brêtas, Head of Digital Media; Amauri Soares, director of Central Globo de Programação; Eduardo Becker, Director of Marketing of Digital Media and Raymundo Barros, CTO at Globo.
Brêtas said that between January and October of this year there was a 108% increase in the time of consumption of digital content, compared to 2015. Meanwhile, the TV broadcaster Globo grew 13% in audience in the National Panel of Television (PNT). “This shows that there is no cannibalization, if the content is good, the digital and the linear TV support each other”, said the executive, according to G1. Globo reported that in the last year 6.3 billion videos were consumed in Globo Play.
The platform offers content produced by TV broadcaster Globo, sometimes even before its exhibition on FTA TV. It includes free access to segments of novels, series and miniseries. In addition, Globo Play allows subscribers to watch the live TV signal, though for the moment this feature is only available in Brasilia, and in cities of the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
