Fox gets Roja Directa site blocked in Peru

Fox Networks Group (FNG) Latin America announced that it obtained the support of the Peruvian authorities, who issued a precautionary measure blocking access to “Roja Directa” site, which illegally offer access to sports broadcasts.
The Peruvian administrative authority for the defense of Intellectual Property, through its Copyright Commission (Indecopi), issued the precautionary measure following a request submitted by the media group, which owns several sporting events in the region.
FNG said that it asked the authorities to block Roja Directa “after verifying that the website violates the Copyright and Intellectual Property Rights by illegally retransmitting contents produced by the Group without authorization.”
“Indecopi corroborated that Roja Directa has control over the inclusion of illegal links and knowledge of the infringement committed by including them, and concluded that the website facilitates the infringement of the intellectual property rights of FNG Latin America, by making the links providing access to broadcasts that include the Group’s content available to Internet users” FNG added.
Daniel Steinmetz, Chief Anti-Piracy Officer of FNG Latin America, said the resolution “has already been notified to the main Internet service providers so they implement the blocking as soon as possible.”
Earlier this year, FNG obtained a similar resolution in Uruguay, where the local justice determined that all Internet providers must block Roja Directa website.
