Qatar satellite company, Es’hailSat, has selected Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO) to build the company’s second satellite, Es’hail 2. The new satellite will be positioned at 26° East to provide high quality, premium DTH TV content broadcasting across the Middle East and North Africa.
“With the success of our first satellite, Es’hail 1, we are delighted to move forward with our satellite procurement programme with MELCO,” said Ali Al Kuwari, CEO of Es’hailSat. “Es’hail 2 demonstrates our commitment to provide premium satellite capacity for broadcasters in the MENA region and build a sustainable satellite industry for Qatar.”
Es’hail 2 will have Ku-band and Ka-band capabilities and will provide TV distribution and government services to stakeholders and commercial customers. While the design activities started on July 17, Es’hail 2 will take about 27 months to complete the manufacturing and testing. The satellite is expected to be launched at the end of 2016.
