Only three years and a half after its first diffusion Zulu TV news, the daily news bulletin has been cancelled by e.tv. e.tv is the fifth terrestrial television channel in South Africa and eNCA’s news division, the first 24h news service in the country. The length of the show was half an hour and produced by eMedia for the eKasi+ channel on Platco Digital’s FTA satellite OVHD.
This loss is echoing with the attempt, earlier this year to create a news bulletin called eNuus during prime time on Multichoice’s DStv Satellite pay-TV service. In 2015, the bulletin has been aired during the prime time where the result were only 370 000 viewers and this result lead to its removal four months later. It was then broadcast on eKasi+ where it was terminated.
Controversy about the cancellation have risen since eNCA declared: “with the relaunch of eKasi+ as e.tv Extra and a focus on entertainment programming, eNews Izindaba stopped broadcasting at the end of March”.
Meanwhile, the eNews divison continues to air Afrikaans language news during prime time on MultiChoice’s DStv satellite pay-TV service.
