During a Morgan Stanley investor conference in Barcelona, AT&T CFO John Stephens said that DirecTV Now streaming service has reached over 900,000 subscribers, less than a year after its launch.
“About half of these subscribers are cord cutters or cord nevers, with about 10% of those coming from AT&T’s DIRECTV and U-verse services. The other half have migrated from other traditional TV providers”, said the company.
DirecTV Now allows access to more than 120 channels for a monthly subscription that ranges between USD 35 and USD 70 depending on the plan.
According to Dataxis, linear OTT Pay TV continue to add subscribers in the United States. At the end of Q217, they reached 4.4 million subs (+49.6%), contributing to the prevention of the global trend of market erosion that started several quarters ago.
At the event in Barcelona, Stephens declined to give details of AT&T negotiations with the Department of Justice. Subsequently, the entity filed a lawsuit to block the merger with Time Warner.
