DirecTV acquires Copa Sudamericana rights

DirecTV Latin America has acquired rights to broadcast the Copa Sudamericana and the Recopa in Spanish-speaking Latin America and the Caribbean for the period 2019-2022.
The operator was selected in “an open and competitive bidding process that included the participation several bidders,” said the South American Soccer Confederation (Conmebol).
DirecTV reported that in Paraguay and Bolivia, where it does not have operations, the company will provide the transmission through subsidiaries. “In DirecTV we know that Latin Americans are passionate about soccer and we are very proud to expand our relationship with Conmebol to bring the best coverage in the Copa Sudamericana and the Recopa region with the broadcast quality that distinguishes us,” said Rick Nerod, SVP Content of DirecTV Latin America.
The bidding process was designed by the Commercial Department of the Conmebol. In the last two years, the Copa Sudamericana tournament has increased its rating, stadium attendance and digital interaction, said Juan Emilio Roa, Club Commercial Director of Conmebol.
