The news has been revealed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. He said that the Digital Switch Over (DSO) will be launched in Abuja, today. 30 free channels will be accessible for the residents of Abuja upon the DSO and more than 450000 set-top boxes (STBs) will be provided upon signal.
Pinnacle Communication Limited, being the main facilities provider for the signal distribution for Abuja DSO, Alhaji Mohammed said: “We are impressed by the speed, commitment and passion of Pinnacle to this project and we have come here to ensure that no stone is left unturned to ensure smooth Digital Switch Over in Abuja on Thursday”.
He further commented that: “It’s a revolution in the broadcasting ecosystem as far as Nigeria is concerned because not only are we going to have better clarity and audio but the average resident of FCT who is in possession of our Set-Top Box will have 30 free channels from news, entertainment, music….This is going to open a new vista for content”.
According to Alhaji Mohammed, more than 24 million TV households will have their STBs repaired or installed. With the recent launch of a DTT platform in Daura by StarTimes, the Federal Government will commit itself to meet the 2017 dealine set for the DSO in the country.
