Digicel goes for 4K in the Caribbean together with Huawei

The telecommunications operator of the Caribbean Digicel gave its first step towards transmissions in 4k. Using the technology provided by Huawei, it broadcasted in this quality from its headquarters located in Kingston, Jamaica. The main media in the region were invited to demonstration.

“Thanks to the power of our fiber network and hybrid TV platform, UHD-TV can be a reality for Jamaica and indeed all of our fibre networks in the region,” pointed out John Quinn, Group CTO for Digicel.

In Bermuda, Digicel announced that the deployment of its new FTTH network will be finished before the end of 2017. Through this network it will provide TV and Internet services. In that country, Digicel offers pay TV since 2015, when it acquired the operator BTC (Bermuda Telephone Company), but never offered it with its own brand.
