The South American Soccer Confederation (Conmebol) has selected IMG and Perform as its new partner for the commercialisation of its club competitions for 2019- 2022. The consortium offered a guaranteed minimum of USD 1.4 billion. Now, several changes are expected in the broadcasts of the games for the next seasons.
According to Olé sports daily, starting in 2019, Conmebol tournaments (Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, Recopa, among others) will be available in several TV networks, and not only on Fox Sports (which owns the rights until next year). Tournaments will also be available in other markets. In addition, Copa Libertadores would have a single final match, instead of two, following the Champions League model.
El Cronista reported that Conmebol will earn USD 350 million per year. “This contract represents a huge advance towards our strategic goal of generating more value for the development and growth of South American football,” said Conmebol president, Alejandro Domínguez.
