CNT reaffirms its commitment to Ecuadorian soccer

Ecuador’s National Telecommunications Corporation (CNT) ratified its commitment to local soccer. The company, which has negotiated with GolTV to broadcast the matches, has issued a statement after a judge ordered the Ecuadorian Soccer Federation (FEF) to launch a new tender for the TV rights.
According to CNT, the company’s goal is that “more families have access to the National Tournament broadcasts at appropriate prices.” After the decision of the justice, Andrés Moreno Villacís, general manager of the CNT, said in the statement “the company is attentive to the process and maintains the goal of getting more Ecuadorians to watch soccer from the first date of the tournament.”
“The legal issues between the Federation and GolTV must be solved properly,” added Moreno Villacís, and recalled that teams and players have been in favor of the contract” for the benefits it offers.” CNT intends to “offer the matches in all the TV plans without increasing costs”, according to the manager. In addition, he pointed out that “sport should not be politicized because it is a passion of Ecuadorians that deserves respect”.
A few days ago, the court ordered the FEF to open a new tender for the TV rights of the domestic tournament. This way, the Justice ruled in favor of the protection action requested by politician Dalo Bucaram. The Justice believes that the FEF “transgressed the constitutional rights of equality” when selecting GolTV.
