China Central Television (CCTV), the Chinese state broadcaster, has sealed a new channel distribution deal with Eutelsat Communications, the satellite operator. The pact is a long-term on whereby CCTV will be broadcasting three of its flagship channels in High-Definition (HD) across the region of Middle East and North Africa.

Now available in HD in Chinese and English from the high-power HOTBIRD satellites at 13 degrees East, will be CCTV-4 HD, CGTN HD (formerly CCTV News) and CGTN-Documentary HD (formerly CCTV Documentary). Standard version of the channels is already accessible with Eutelsat first broadcasting CCTV stations in 2008 and the new one will be broadcasted free-to-air.

Presently, serving Europe and MEA regions with CCTV channels, Eutelsat’s cluster of three HOTBIRD satellites deliver a line-up of more than 1000 channels in 40 languages to more than 135 million homes via direct-to-home (DTH) reception, cable, IP and DTT networks.
