Studies' results are ready but Chile still delays digital TVChile tiene los resultados pero posterga laTV digital

<!--:en-->Although technical reports are ready, crossed pressures between TV and telecommunications industries are delaying Chile's digital TV decision. Chile has been a leader in technology adoption in South America but is lagging behind Uruguay in mobile TV. "We are highly aware that a wrong decision could bring about more serious concerns than a mere delay in the introduction of this technology", said new Minister of Transports and Telcommunications, René Cortázar.

Japanese industry does not live up to its ISDB-T promises to BrazilLa industria japonesa no cumple con Brasil por ISDB-T

<!--:en-->One of the promises made by the Japanese government to make Brazil opt for its digital TV standard, was the set-up of a semiconductors factory in Brazil. Toshiba was the alleged investor but "they were only false promises ", admitted Development Minister, Miguel Jorge. According to Minister of Science and Technology, Sergio Rezende, actually, "there was such an agreement between those governments but no government can force a company to set up a unit in one country or another ". And even when Toshiba may now be interested, this setback is an important precedent for other countries in Latin America like Chile, Colombia, Argentina and Venezuela, who are still pondering their decisions.<!--:--><!--:es-->Una de las promesas que realizó el gobierno japonés para que el gobierno brasileño eligiera la norma de TV digital de ese país fue que se instalaría una fábrica de semiconductores en Brasil.

<!--:en-->Considering that 20% of the 92 million cellular phones in Japan can receive ISDB-T signal, Brazilian experts believe that Brazil should have between two and three million cellular phones with SBTVD reception capability (Brazilian Digital TV Signal, the local variant of the Japanese system) in 2010. In a statement to Telesíntese newsletter, Rafael Peresinotto, engineer of digital TV platforms' developer EiTV, ventured that the sales of TV-enabled cellular phones will grow as they get more affordable.<!--:--><!--:es-->Teniendo en cuenta que en Japón el 20% de los 92 millones de celulares pueden recibir la señal de ISDB-T, expertos brasileños creen que Brasil debería tener en 2010 entre dos millones y tres millones de celulares con capacidad de recibir la señal de SBTVD (Sistema Brasileño de TV Digital, la variante local del sistema japonés). USD 600 M for digital TV in Brazil waiting for applicants to show up US$ 600 M para TV digital en Brasil sin interesados

<!--:en-->The powerful National Bank of Economic and Social Development of Brazil (BNDES) has allocated USD 605 million to its support program to the implementation of the Brazilian digital TV system ("PROTVD"). The Program involves low-cost financing to broadcasters for building of transmission infrastructure and digital equipment. However, projects for only USD 14 million have been approved so far, according to Telesintese portal. As Daniel Alves Lima, Manager of the BNDES technology department has said, 'companies may be waiting to see the direction the market will take.' Brazilian broadcasters have opted for the Japanese ISDB-T standard because it is possible to broadcast open mobile TV without sharing revenues with mobile carriers, but there is concern about the price of STBs and cellular phones with TV receptors.<!--:--><!--:es-->El poderoso Banco Nacional de Desarrollo Económico y Social (BNDES) de Brasil destinó US$ 605 millones al programa de apoyo a TV digital (PROTVD), que incluye financiamiento a bajo costo a broadcasters para construcción de infraestructura de transmisión y equipamiento digital. <!--:--[...]

Chile's digital TV decision looks imminentLa decisión de TV digital chilena parece inminente

<!--:en-->As sources of the Undersecretariat of Telecommunications in Chile have said, the analysis on the seven universities' reports made for digital TV standard selection is complete. President Michelle Bachelet must ask for the final report and a decision should be announced in the next few days, although it has been put off several times. National Television Broadcasters' Association Anatel is pressing for the adoption of ATSC. The Japanese embassy has won endorsement of the ISDB standard among politicians and technical people thanks to demos showing the best quality. The adoption of the DVB format, however, should not be underestimated due to the strong lobby of Spain.<!--:--><!--:es-->Fuentes de la Subsecretaría de Telecomunicaciones de Chile revelaron que ya se han analizado los informes que elaboraron siete universidades para la elección del estándar de TV digital.
