Cablevisión-Telecom merger becomes effective in Argentina


The merger between Cablevisión and Telecom Argentina has become effective as of 0.00 hours of 1 January 2018, the companies reported to the Argentine Securities Commission and the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange.
This way, “Cablevisión S.A. has been dissolved without liquidation and Cablevisión Holding (CVH) has become the controlling shareholder of Telecom Argentina S.A”, said the press release.
Alejandro Urricelqui, who was previously Financial Director at Grupo Clarín, was appointed president of Telecom, while Mariano Ibáñez, who was serving as president, became vice president.
Last December, Argentina’s communications regulator Enacom authorized the merger of the companies. However, the approval of the National Commission of Competition Defense is still pending.
Meanwhile, starting this month the telecommunications companies can now offer pay TV in some regions of the country. However, they are waiting for the decree that will enables them to provide satellite TV, which could be published in the next few days, according to local media.
