Cable TV suspended in regions of Pakistan

Auction for direct-to-home (DTH) licences will still be taking place tomorrow. The government has opposed to postponing the process. Consequently, cable operators have suspended their services in several regions of Pakistan.

Those areas include Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, Gujarat and Multan. There is a concentrated number of DTH users in the region of Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. DTH service is a platform where channels are transferred digitally into homes from satellite through small dish antennas.

Following the last Senate meeting chaired by senator Kamil Ali Agha, it was decided that Pakistani DTH will be launched this month. This would have given operators time for system upgradation. Still, they announced shutdown of cable, he added.
