Brazil’s Simba signs distribution deal with Vivo

Simba, joint venture between Brazilian free-to-air TV channels Record TV, SBT and RedeTV, reached an agreement with Vivo (Telefonica) to offer the digital version of the three channels in the lineup of the pay TV operator.

The stations were removed from the lineup of the main operators of the country after the analogue switch off in Sao Paulo, last March. The conflict started when Simba began demanding a payment – initially about R$ 15 (USD 4.8) – for all the digital signals, which was not accepted by operators.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed but according to the TelaViva news site the price went down considerably. This is Simba’s first deal. Now the company will now continue negotiating with Claro/Net, SKY and Oi. At the close of Q217, Vivo recorded 1.6 million pay TV subscribers.
