Brazils pay TV lost over 171,000 subscribers in April

Brazilian regulator Anatel reported that in April, the pay TV market lost 171,233 subscribers (-0.90%) compared to previous month. In the last 12 months, the reduction was 147,471 subscribers (-0.78%). The total base registered 18.76 million clients.

Oi posted the highest growth, both in April and the last 12 months: 1.63% and 15.78%, respectively. The Brazilian operator recorded a total base of 1.37 million pay TV customers.

Claro Brasil (Net + Claro + Blue) registered in April 9.62 million subscribers, a 1.23% fall compared to previous month. Sky ended the period with 5.54 million subscribers (-0.87%), while Vivo reported 1.66 million (-0.09%).

 

Between March and April 2017, fiber optic grew 0.14% while the rest of the services have lost clients: DTH (-0.91%), Cable (-0.93%) and MMDS (-3.27). DTH systems accounted for 58% of total subscriber base while Cable accounted for 40.8%.
