Brazilian pay TV market shows slight recovery in July

The pay TV market in Brazil ended July with 18.93 million clients, according to figures from regulator Anatel. The number represents an increase of close to 17,000 subscribers compared to June, but is still under the 18.95 million customers registered at the end of Q116.

According to Anatel, this year the market grew in term of subscribers only in June and July. DTH is the main technology in terms of users in the country (57.41%). However, it should be noted that Anatel presents consolidated data of Telefonica Group (Vivo+GVT), adding the IPTV subscriber base within the DTH base.

Cable TV decreased its share from 41.61% in June to 41.49% in July. However, in March that figure was at 41.46%. This segment is largely dominated by Net (América Móvil). The IPTV rose from 0.96% in March to 1.02% in June and then to 1.06% in July.

At the end of July, the pay TV market is 96.1% controlled by four holding: América Móvil (51.99%), Sky/AT&T (28.36%), Telefónica (9.29%) and Oi (6 , 47%).
