According to data provided by National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), Brazilian pay TV recorded 17.5 million active contracts in January 2019. The number represents a 0.8% in comparison with December 2018, and rises to 3.6% compared to January last year.
The only pay TV operator that showed growth between January 2018 and January 2019 was Oi, with more than 5.4%. NET / Claro decreased by 5,8%, Vivo declined its subscribers by 2.2% and Sky reduced them by 1.5%. According to January 2019 numbers, the four operators represent 97.1% of active pay TV subscriptions in Brazil. NET / Claro is the market leader, with 48.8% representation, followed by Sky with 30.2%, Oi accumulates 9.2% and Vivo records the remaining 8.9%.
Despite Brazilian pay TV subscribers general decreasement, growth was recorded in Northeast and North Brazilian states during the last 12 months. The three more significant cases took place in Maranhão, where pay TV clients increase reached 23.9 thousand (13.5% more). Rio Grande do Norte added 11.8 thousand subscribers (5.1% increase), and Pará recorded 11.7 thousand more (an increase of 3.8%).
