According to Brazilian regulator Anatel, the pay TV market ended January with 18.69 million subscribers, which represents a drop of more than 105,000 clients (-056%) when compared to December 2016.

In the last 12 months, the country’s pay TV base reduced by 365,000 customers (-1.91%). Among the main operators, only Oi increased its base, adding more than 141,000 subscribers (+ 12.03%).

In January, Oi added 14,000 subscribers (+ 1.06%) to reach 1.32 million total pay TV customers. All the other groups lost subscribers during the first month of the year.

América Móvil (Net + Claro TV) lost 44,000 clients in January and ended the month with 9.75 million total subs. Sky (AT & T) lost about 28,000 customers and recorded 5.22 million. Telefónica reduced its base by 22,000 customers and reached 1.61 million total pay TV subs.

In January, fiber optic operators added 485 customers (+ 0.22%) while all the other technologies lost customers. In absolute terms, the biggest reduction was registered by the DTH operators, which lost about 75,000 users in one month.
