Brazil loses more than 52,000 pay TV subs in May

Brazil registered 17.85 million pay TV subscribers in May, which represented a drop of about 788,000 subscribers compared to the same month in 2017, and more than 52,000 customers compared to the previous April. Among the main operators, Sky (AT&T) was the only one that lost subscribers in the month.
According to the data provided by the regulator Anatel, SKy ended May with 5.21 million customers, a drop of more than 53,000 in the month (and 294,000 YoY). América Móvil (Net + Claro) reported a total base of 8.96 million subscribers, after adding about 4,000 in the month (but it lost 552,000 YoY). Net added about 3,000 customers in May, while Claro TV grew by just over 800 subscribers, although when compared to May 2017 it lost close to 525,000.
In turn, Oi added more than 9,000 customers in the month and ended the period with a total base of 1.54 million. Vivo (Telefónica) registered close to 1.6 million subscribers, an increase of close to 4,000 in May.
