BBC Worldwide Latin America / US Hispanic announced that it will withdraw its pay-TV channels BBC Entertainment, CBeebies and BBC Earth in Latin America from April this year.
“This decision is driven by the growing demand in the market for our shows and will allow us to deliver our Premium content to even wider audiences in the region”, the company explained in a statement.
In this way, the BBC will reinforce its multiplatform distribution strategy in the region. “We are deeply grateful to our business partners and audiences, who have given us their support, and we look forward to working with our partners to bring our content and brands to all Latin American platforms”.
The company said that CBeebies, the popular pre-school brand, will continue operating as a linear TV channel, OTT service and dedicated app in the US Hispanic market. In turn, CBeebies app will remain available throughout Latin America and the Hispanic market in the United States.
Meanwhile, the international news channel BBC World News, owned by BBC Global News Ltd, will not be affected by the changes and will continue to be present in Latam’s pay TV market.
BBC said this decision in Latin America will not affect the rest of BBC Worldwide’s operations around the globe.
