BBC removes its channels from pay TV operators in Latin America

Pay TV channels BBC Entertainment, CBeebies and BBC Earth stopped operating in Latin America, as BBC Worldwide Latin America/US Hispanic had anticipated earlier this year. The channels ceased their linear operations on April 13.

The decision was also announced on social media. “We will soon disappear as a channel, but our incredible content and all your favorite shows will continue to be available through free-to-air television, pay TV channels and video streaming platforms in your region”, said, for example, a message on BBC Entertainment’s Facebook page.

In a statement, BBC Worldwide explained: “This decision is driven by the growing demand in the market for our shows and will allow us to deliver our Premium content to even wider audiences in the region”.

Some of the content of the channels are already available on OTT platforms such as Netflix, Claro Video and Blim, among others.

Meanwhile, CBeebies app will remain available throughout Latin America and the Hispanic market in the United States. CBeebies will continue operating as a linear TV channel, OTT service and dedicated app in the US Hispanic market, while BBC World News channel will remain available on pay TV services in Latin America.

The decision to remove the channels from Latin American pay TV services will not affect the rest of BBC Worldwide’s operations around the globe.
