Mexican media reported that AT&T, DAZN or News Corporation may acquire Fox Sports business in Mexico and all its sports rights, according to the newspaper Reforma, quoted by Radio Formula. Other media such as La Politica Online informed that Jorge Hank Rohn, owner of Grupo Caliente, is another of the main candidates to acquire the Mexican channel.
According to Reforma, the best likely for the acquisition is News Corporation (by Rupert Murdoch), in partnership with seven Mexican football clubs that have agreements leagued with those channels, together with Ernesto Lopez, Fox Sports Mexico Programming and Production VP Senior . Reforma also mentions Hank Rohn, who also owns the Mexican football clubs Xolos, Dorados de Sinaloa and Gallos Blancos de Queretaro.
Previously, companies such as Carso, América Móvil, Megacable and Grupo Imagen had been linked to the operation, although they said they will not focus on acquiring Fox Sports Mexico. Recently, the Telecommunications Federal Institute (IFT) granted Disney an extension until May 1st, 2020 for the acquisition of Fox’s sports division in the country, which, together with the sale of Fox Sports Brasil , were compulsory conditions imposed for the Disney-Fox merger, completed in March this year. In addition, Televisa sent a legal request last week to prevent merger between both companies.
