Arasu to acquire 700000 STBs for DAS implementation in Tamil Nadu

The state government-owned Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation (TACTV) is looking for 700000 Set-top boxes (STB) via a bidding process for DAS implementation in Tamil Nadu area. To recall, ARASU received a MSO licence from the Ministry of information and broadcast in April and has to complete the digitisation of its network within three months from the date of issue of licence.

Arasu is also interested in getting price discovery for triple-play STB and Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) cable modem. Of the 700000, 600000 will be Simple definition and the 100000 will be in high definition. The Company has to complete the complete their digitisation in two months otherwise their multi-system operator (MSO) licence will be revoked.

The proposed TV services, which will have 300 channels to start and to be expanded to 500. The STBS will be submitted to a tender.
