America Movil subsidiary requested Pay TV license in Mexico

An America Movil subsidiary -the group that also includes Telmex- would have requested at the end of 2018 to the Telecommunications Federal Institute (IFT) the authorization to offer video and “restricted television” (pay TV) in Mexico, according to what business local newspaper ‘El Economista’ reported.

The newspaper also supports that “several sources consulted on regulation and economic issues competition agreed that America Movil would be looking for a single concession through one of its subsidiaries, which would enable it from now on to provide any type of telecommunications or broadcasting service throughout the national territory’.

‘Taking into account functional division’ of Telmex wholesale unit ordered by IFT, he newspaper concludes that ‘since Telmex is no longer controlling the preponderant network, then limitations for it to finally obtain a single concession to allow it to provide TV or video services do not fit anymore ‘.
