Prasar Bharati, the public broadcaster of India has announced the name of its acting CEO, Suresh Panda. He has been a member (personnel) and will be the interim CEO, replacing Jawhar Sircar after the later resigned from the top post. His retirement is expected to last until February 2017.
However, this decision needs to be approved by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Panda has been working at Prasar Bharati since last year in the month of March. He is a 1981 batch Indian Administrative officer from Assam-Meghalaya cadre. Earlier, Panda was special secretary and financial advisor at the home ministry.
Other competitors for the post at Prasar Bharati are Sunil Arora (former I&B secretary) and Shashi Shekhar (environment additional secretary). Panda’s appointment actually coincides with the broadcaster planning to auction Doordarshan’s prime time slots to private production houses. Producers would procure content in return for a share in advertising revenue. Prasar Bharati is presently programming under self-finance mode.
